Each item inside Mrs. Bones Curio Cupboard is selected with intention—never ordinary, never without a story.

Some are handcrafted. Some are discovered. All are chosen to bring a little intrigue, beauty, or curiosity into your world.

A beautiful surviving collection of eleven matching Kaysons Golden Rhapsody teacup-and-saucer sets, made in Japan circa 1961.

Golden Rhapsody combines classic mid-century elegance with an unexpectedly fascinating piece of American consumer history. Each white fine china cup and saucer is decorated with graceful gray botanical foliage, delicate pale blossoms, metallic gold accents, and a finely gilded rim.

The complete collection includes:

  • 11 teacups
  • 11 matching saucers
  • 22 total pieces

All pieces have been individually inspected and are in excellent vintage condition, with no chips, cracks, or other condition issues noted. As genuine vintage china dating to approximately 1961, minor variations or extremely light signs of previous handling may be present consistent with age.

Each piece bears the Kaysons backstamp identifying:

Kaysons Fine China

A Surprisingly Interesting History

Research conducted by the Mrs. Bones Research Library uncovered surviving original Golden Rhapsody packaging preserved by the International Museum of Dinnerware Design. The museum documents Golden Rhapsody place settings offered through some American gas stations as promotional premiums in 1961, including surviving examples associated with a Chevron service station in Massachusetts.

What looks today like elegant china from a mid-century dining room therefore also preserves a fascinating piece of America's promotional and consumer history.

The exact meaning of the P86186 designation appearing on these pieces remains unresolved and is documented as an open research question in our Research Library.

The Complete Collection

These eleven matching cup-and-saucer sets were found together and are being offered together as one collection rather than separated.

Eleven is an intriguing surviving number. They may once have belonged to a service for twelve with one setting lost or broken over the decades, although no surviving provenance allows that possibility to be confirmed.

Because of the metallic gold decoration, hand washing is recommended. Not recommended for microwave use.
