Each item inside Mrs. Bones Curio Cupboard is selected with intention—never ordinary, never without a story.

Some are handcrafted. Some are discovered. All are chosen to bring a little intrigue, beauty, or curiosity into your world.

Vintage Soviet Cold War Civil Defense

An authentic vintage Soviet ShM-62U helmet-style gas mask facepiece, manufactured in Tambov, USSR, during the fourth quarter of 1985 and associated with the Soviet GP-5 civilian gas mask system.

Rather than treating this simply as a generic “Soviet gas mask,” Mrs. Bones documented the molded production markings preserved on this individual example. Those markings allow us to identify its size, year and quarter of production, manufacturing location, and press-form number.

Documented markings include:

  • Ф-Б11 — press-form identification
  • Т85•••• — Tambov factory code, 1985, fourth-quarter production
  • Circled 2У — Size 2 ShM-62U facepiece

The Cyrillic У identifies this as the thinner ShM-62U variation of the Soviet helmet-style facepiece.

Individual Specimen Condition

This example shows visible age and storage-related discoloration, particularly around the lower face and cheek areas. The lower valve/filter connection is exposed, and no filter canister is included. These characteristics have been retained as part of the specimen's surviving condition.

Researched by Mrs. Bones

This specimen is included in the Mrs. Bones Research Library, where we have documented the GP-5 system, ShM-62 and ShM-62U facepieces, Soviet sizing, factory codes, production markings, Tambov manufacturing history, preservation considerations, and all three examples currently in the Mrs. Bones collection.
